This is random, but I think worth posting and sharing. The Food Storage Program I have recently discovered (and am in the process of implementing in my home and here on the blog) has some information about foods with an indefinite shelf life. Wow! Here they are: Baking soda
Cornstarch
Corn syrup
Cream of Tartar
(and you can use to substitute for baking powder, just use 2 parts cream of tartar and 1 part baking soda, voila, indefinite baking powder!)
Gelatin (like the Knox kind, and you can use to substitute for eggs instead of powdered eggs, Egg substitute: 1 tsp gelatin + 2 Tb cold water + 2 Tb hot water=1 “egg")
Honey (if crystallizes, heat through and it will reliquify)
Popcorn (if kernels are not popping, sprinkle with cold water and let them sit for a day in an air-tight container before trying again)
Sugar (white and brown, which brown stores better if vacuum sealed)
Homemade syrup (but this requires refrigeration)
Vinegar
Hormel Chili (as long as the cans are still sealed and not damaged in any way)
And bonus: Yeast keeps 5 yr in the freezer.
Hopefully this got some of you excited and hungry for more... more info that is. :)
