WELCOME!

If you are viewing this for the first time, welcome to Orchard View, and we hope you are as excited about Food Storage and Emergency preparedness as we are. To use this blog, use the labels section below to search by topics (and there are multiple pages for many of them, so make sure you click "older posts" at the bottom of each page). And you see to the right above the "Labels" section is a list of links to websites that you might find to be useful. Also, we welcome you to become a "follower" of our ward's blog. Any way you use this site, we appreciate you paying us a visit and hope we have something to share with you that will benefit you and your loved ones.
May God bless us in our efforts as we "prepare every needful thing".

January - Personal Finance

Happy New Year! To start off the new year we are focusing on personal finance. Here is a quote from our prophet:

"We urge all Latter-day Saints to be prudent in their planning, to be conservative in their living, and to avoid excessive or unnecessary debt." President Thomas S. Monson, October 2008 Priesthood Session General Conference

Before we jump in and start ordering more food storage we thought it would be a good idea for everyone, on their own, evaluate your own situation and see if there is any room for improvement there (I know there is a need for improvement in my house). Being debt-free and saving your money is important, just like food storage, and a BIG part of emergency preparedness. If anyone needs any personal one-on-one help with this, we have many members of our Ward who know how to establish a budget and set financial goals for the coming year. If you are interested in this, please email me and I can make sure you get the advice and help from a Priesthood leader. Another helpful tool is to use Mint.com. (https://www.mint.com/what-is-mint/)This is a website, FREE of course, where you enter your accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, loans, etc) and the site tracks your finances. You can budget your spending and make a savings plan, a get-out-of-debt plan, and it is all on the site step-by-step, and did I mention it was free? And safe.

If this is something that does not apply to you or you have other resolutions and plans to make and work on, feel free to use this time. We'll be back ordering food storage in February. Be sure to check out the bulletin board by the Bishop's office for information and upcoming events. Thank you!
