WELCOME!

If you are viewing this for the first time, welcome to Orchard View, and we hope you are as excited about Food Storage and Emergency preparedness as we are. To use this blog, use the labels section below to search by topics (and there are multiple pages for many of them, so make sure you click "older posts" at the bottom of each page). And you see to the right above the "Labels" section is a list of links to websites that you might find to be useful. Also, we welcome you to become a "follower" of our ward's blog. Any way you use this site, we appreciate you paying us a visit and hope we have something to share with you that will benefit you and your loved ones.
May God bless us in our efforts as we "prepare every needful thing".

August reminder

Just as a reminder, your Oats orders are in and ready for pick up
(at Sister H's house), and here is the order info. for this month:
Item             Price per no.10 can        Shelf Life
Apple Slices           $5.70                    30 years
Carrots                    $8.30                    25 years
Onions, Dry           $6.90                    30 years
Potato flakes         $3.25                    30 years
*the sign-ups to order will be in the R.S.binders every Sunday this month.

These are dehydrated foods. To learn more about what that means, click here.

These foods are not the "staples" of food storage, but if you HAD to live off what you had in your food storage, these products will add flavor and "normalcy" to your cooking. We've tried a few recipes and have started posting some on this blog. There are some using apple slices (click here to view) and ones that use potato flakes (click here). Of course you can just eat the dried apples right out of the can for a snack, and you can follow the directions to simply make instant mashed potatoes with the flakes, but we thought of a few more uses. This coming Sunday we'll have sampling of a few recipes, using all 4 of these products. And please, if you have any questions, contact Sister Hanamaikai. Thank you!
